As we go through life, our pearly whites can really take a beating. Over time, the things we eat, drink and smoke can cause stains; chewing and grinding can wear teeth down; fillings leave marks; and sudden impacts lead to chipping. Add to all this the fact that it’s also not uncommon for teeth to come in irregularly-shaped on their own, and you might start to wonder how teeth survive at all! Thankfully, there’s something you can do to fight back. The solution is porcelain dental veneers from Quest Dental, your local
Baltimore cosmetic dentist practice.
Cosmetic Dental Procedures Baltimore
Porcelain dental veneers are very thin, tooth-colored ceramic shells that dentists glue to the front of teeth in order to address a variety of issues, including discoloration, deformations and minor misalignments. The method our
Baltimore cosmetic dentist uses here at Quest Dental to install veneers is pretty straightforward and unfolds over the course of two or three appointments. We’ll start by sanding away a layer of enamel from the teeth in your mouth that are in need of repair. This is undertaken to accommodate the new veneers; you may be given a local anesthetic to keep you comfortable throughout this procedure. We will then make rubberized casts of your teeth called “impressions;” these will be sent off to a laboratory, where technicians will create custom-fit veneers. When these are ready, you’ll come back to the office for “bonding” -- the term we dentists use to refer to the gluing process. First we will roughen up your enamel with a tool to help the cement stick better. Then we’ll place the veneers and cure the cement with a special light. Minor adjustments will be made along the way to make sure everything fits well and looks great. Just like that, you’ll have a brand new smile!
Once in place, you can expect porcelain dental veneers to last quite awhile -- typically somewhere between five and ten years. Thanks to this durability, you don’t need to worry about changing your oral hygiene habits. Just keep up with the twice-a-day brushing and flossing, and remember to schedule regular check-ups with your favorite
